Media Numerics new player in live sound technology
International R&D Team Bows Innovative Real-Time Live Networking System
SAN FRANCISCO (AES Booth #1626): Media Numerics®, www.medianumerics.com, is introducing RockNet, a novel suite of integrated networking technology designed to provide cost-effective, enhanced audio (and data) distribution for live performance.
Formed in 2005, the Hanau, Germany / Millington, NJ-based firm’s primary objective was to develop a revolutionary digital real time audio network with intuitive and transparent, set-up and operation. “By making our customers an integral part of the design process we have created an outstanding feature set designed for real world applications,” said Media Numerics CTO, Matthias Knoth.
Distinguished by numerous awards and patents, the Media Numerics®, international design and marketing team represents an amalgamation of accomplished technical and management professionals. Adept in all facets of pro audio including live sound, broadcast and communications, the company represents a significant source of expertise in digital audio technology.
Media Numerics® President/Chief Technology Officer Matthias Knoth is an internationally recognized digital audio designer, patent-holder and hands-on audio specialist. Principal designer of the company’s innovative RockNet 300 audio networking system, Knoth has conceived and designed networked digital hardware systems for several broadcast manufacturers including Riedel Communications, Klotz Digital and Stagetec.
Prior to his partnership in Media Numerics®, Arnd Janus served as a Project Manager for Alcatel, and as Technical Director for a number of regional startup companies. He brings extensive management experience to his position as Media Numerics® Chief Executive Officer.
U.S.-based sales and marketing expert Vinnie Macri brings an equally well-rounded background to Media Numerics®. He was most recently Director of Marketing & Sales for RIEDEL Communications U.S. and Canada.
Since its inception in 2005, Media Numerics® has focused on the dual mission of developing meaningful pro audio products and building a high level network of investors, distributors and corporate advisors. Arnd Janus reports that heading the list of principal investors in the company is the Vitec Group (Clear-Com, Anton/Bauer, Vega). “We took our time in selecting investors with similar values, and specifically sought out partners from within the industry” Janus said. “The synergy with Vitec and our other investors not only affords us significant financial stability, it also contributes extremely well-informed ideas and support.”
Janus adds that international distribution is now in place for Asia and South America with Joseph Maning’s International Sales (San Diego, CA); Bob Snelgrove’s Gerr Audio (Brockville, Ontario) for Canada; Jun Isono’s Taguchi Co. Ltd. (Yokohama, Kanagawa) for Japan; and Connex GmbH (Lohne, Germany) for Europe. U.S. distribution is coordinated by Media Numerics’ Millington, NJ office.
Introducing RockNet
Media Numerics®’ premiere product, RockNet, is a real-time, low-latency audio/data distribution network expressly designed for touring and installed sound applications. The system’s initial products will provide a cost-effective, universal solution to the full spectrum of audio distribution applications, from stadium to shed, theatrical, House of Worship and corporate productions.
Designed to perform like a traditional analog active split system, RockNet can link up to 99 devices into a single network comprising 160 audio channels. These 160 channels can be ‘dropped’ to a maximum of 768 outputs in the bidirectional network without limitation. A particular RockNet benefit is a streamline redundancy concept on the device and network level. In a ring configuration the network is self-healing for single connection failures. RockNet offers significant advantages in performance, consistency, and flexibility.
